Archaeology Scotland is the leading independent charity working to inspire communities, amateurs and professionals to discover, explore and enjoy the past. For 70 years, Archaeology Scotland has been working with people across Scotland to conserve and celebrate our rich heritage. With changes in land use, development threats and climate change, protecting the future of our heritage is more urgent than ever.
With over 90% of the built heritage of Scotland receiving no statutory protection we work with individuals, community groups and companies who want to protect, restore, explore, record or interpret the archaeology and heritage they feel passionate about through our Adopt-a-Monument programme.
Through Scottish Archaeology Month we facilitate the celebration of all things archaeological and historical with hundreds of events and activities taking place each year.
Our conferences are and information resource and celebration of archaeological activity taking place around Scotland and we produce our annual journal Discovery & Excavation in Scotland which records all site activity for each year.
In addition to the journal our members enjoy events and outings, our thrice-yearly magazine, e-news alerts and discounted publications and events. We encourage the inclusion of archaeology within the Curriculum of Excellence for schools and support youth groups to learn transferable archaeological skills. Much of the standing, or yet undiscovered, archaeology is in rural areas and we work with landholders to ensure sensitive handling of sites. We encourage innovative and best practice, providing a plethora of learning resources and case studies on our website and campaign for the best protective legislation with both Scottish and UK parliaments.
Archaeology Scotland relies heavily on grant income for the work that we do and although we continue to be successful at this it becomes more difficult each year to fund our primary activities as funders move towards more short-term project-based funding.
We rely on membership, regular donations and legacies to sustain our essential services. Monthly committed giving and legacies allow us to plan for the future and ensure that we can continue to inspire the exploration, conservation and enjoyment of our heritage.
For example a regular donation of £30 plus gift aid can purchase equipment to take a youth group to site for skills training. A donation of £5000 can deliver 10 workshops for rurally isolated groups or underprivileged children. £700 would cover the cost of a new interpretation board at a neglected or misunderstood site.

Is there any cost to our cause or supporters?
No, it's completely free for your cause and supporters. The only cost is to the retailer.
Why do the retailers make a donation?
When you visit a retailer or service through goraise.co.uk they offer a donation as a thank you for your custom. Our partner retailers like to help, but it's also a way of attracting customers, so they essentially put it down as a marketing cost.
Sounds too good to be true – is there a catch?
There’s no catch, and to confirm, it won't cost you a penny!! In fact, there’s £millions worth of retailer commission available every year to fund good causes across the UK. Amazingly, many causes are still unaware of this easy, free way to generate funds through everyday online shopping.
How much of the donation does GoRaise take?
We don’t take a penny of the amount displayed. For all retailers we show a donation rate (% or £), which represents the full amount you are raising for your cause. For clarity, GoRaise is a commercial organisation, and we receive an additional payment from the retailer above and beyond that shown on the site.
Can any cause use GoRaise to fundraise?
Yes – any good cause (an organisation with unselfish goals) can use GoRaise to generate funds, from small community groups to national charities. Your favourite cause may already be registered. If it isn’t, it can be added for free. GoRaise helps charities, sports clubs, PTAs, community groups, churches, youth groups (Girl Guides, Scouts etc) and lots of other great causes.
How do we get paid?
You can choose to receive your money into a bank account or direct donation platform. We pay our causes every quarter and challengers monthly. We'll let you know once the payment has been sent. Please note: causes have to have at least £15 (and Challengers £2) in their account before we make payment
