Not for the faint hearted, The Muckle Toon Trail Half Marathon captures the very best of the border town. Steeped in historic tradition, Langholm boasts a number of famous hill climbs, none more famous than the Kirk Wynd. A 25% climb from the town’s market square heading towards the monument on top of Whita hill. Each year the feat of climbing this historic hill is undertaken by horse riders on the last Friday of July during the town’s Common Riding. If you dare to run where horses gallop then this is the race for you! The route will begin at Basecamp and heads directly towards the town centre. Here, a sharp left takes you to the foot of what will be a memorable mile ascent. The terrain will continue to be challenging and varied, with sections of tarmac as you pass back through the town, followed by bridleways, singletrack sheep trails, steep ascents and muddy descents as well as the occasional style and dry stone wall to cross. Trail shoes recommended!
