Women Can Marathon and Relay

A unique celebration of women’s endurance running – marking the 50th anniversary of a milestone in marathon history. In 1967 Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to officially run the all-male Boston Marathon, at a time when women were not believed capable of the distance. She paved the way for thousands of women to be part of the marathon experience. This special anniversary women only event starts and finishes at Tipton St John playing field, in East Devon, which also has its 50th anniversary in 2017. The scenic off-road course takes in the Sid and Otter valleys, the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, and the towns of Sidmouth and Ottery St Mary. It’s a challenging course with a total ascent of 3,000 feet, akin to climbing a mountain, but the views and the experience of being part of this unique, special celebration will be worth it. We know that both the climb and the distance are achievable because Women Can.
