In the last forty years the cancer survival rate in the UK has doubled. This has partly been thanks to the huge amount of fundraising and public awareness surrounding the illness, but there is still a long way to go, and cancer charities are as in need of funding as ever.
Below are a few ideas for fundraising for a cancer research or care charity.
Arrange a sponsored run (5k is a great distance) and encourage supporters to take part. You could provide prizes for the fastest runners, but make sure to also encourage and include all your supporters, some can jog or walk the course instead, and still play a part in the fundraising.
Write to local businesses and famous people outlining your charity’s aims. Ask for donated items to be auctioned at a charity night.
The options are limitless; coffee mornings, group meals, games nights, quiz evenings. Simply set a ticket price, and put the proceeds towards your charity. If you don’t have suitable premises for events like these, then perhaps someone involved with your charity can help you find a church or school hall, or village green, where you can host all kinds of events.
Get a group together, find some buckets and soap and go knocking on doors to offer your car washing service. Be sure to wear your charity t-shirts, and let people know what a good cause they are supporting.
Organise a cake morning and bring along delicious treats to sell to friends, family and the local community. Perhaps you have some gardening experts among your supporters? It is easy to nurture a few different species of flower, herb or vegetable plants to adulthood and then sell the plants in small pots at a community sale.
Find a few people in your team who have a skill they can share, an interesting story to tell, or even a topic they could run a TED talk on. Ask them to prepare an hour’s session and invite colleagues to make a donation to join in at lunchtime.
