Organising a charity mudrunner event

There are two ways to sign up for a mudrunner event.

The first is simply to visit the website of one of the many races available and sign yourself up for an entry fee. The cost of entry for a mudrunner event is usually between £80 and £120.

Then you can set about raising enough money to cover your entry cost and support your chosen cause.

One of the best known companies running muddy events in the UK is Tough Mudder, who have a good selection of races all over the country, and even offer an annual 24hr endurance challenge in Las Vegas for those who want to make sure their fundraiser has the highest profile and prestige.

The other option is to sign up through a charity. A handful of charities offer heavily discounted entry to mudrunner races if you register for the race in support of them. For example, Feed The Minds will allow you to sign up for a race for only £10, provided you can raise £350 in support of your effort.

If the charity or cause you wish to support does not currently advertise this kind of support, then why not get in touch and ask them if they would consider doing something similar?

Training

Completing a mudrun is no walk in the park. Not only will you be covering a distance of between 5-10 miles, but that distance will also be broken up by gruelling military style obstacles.

This means that the course requires a combination of cardio-vascular fitness and functional strength.

A great way to increase your cardio abilities is to take regular runs. Working towards being able to regularly run 5km is a good goal when approaching a mudrun.

In order to haul yourself under, over and across the many obstacles you will face you will also need to focus on building functional strength, thankfully, many such workout plans are available online, such as this one from Men’s Health.

Gathering support

Once your challenge is set up, it’s time to start looking for support and donations.

One way to generate support and funds for your run is by hosting a few events in the lead up to your challenge. Take a look at our Fundraising Ideas page for some inspiration.

Using GoRaise to collect funds for your run is a great way to supplement the money you raise from conventional sponsorship forms. You can register as a Challenger on GoRaise today, and your supporters will be able to generate funds for your challenge each time they shop online.

You can visit our FAQs to find out more about using GoRaise as part of your challenge.

Good luck!
